Blood Cancers

Blood Cancers

Cancers that develop from the cells that form the blood are called as blood cancers. These cancers can be of many types depending on the type of cell from which the cancer arises. Some of the blood cancers are slow growing while others can grow quickly and therefore treatment needs to be started quickly too. The different types of blood cancers behave differently causing different symptoms. However, there are some common symptoms present in all of them. There are many types of blood cancers, the common ones are listed here.

Leukaemias

These are types of blood cancers which are caused by increased and uncontrolled production of abnormal white blood cells in the blood and bone marrow. Common types of Leukaemia include
– Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML)
– Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL)
– Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML)
– Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL)

Multiple Myeloma

Lymphomas

Lymphomas are mainly divided into two types, Hodgkins lymphoma and Non Hodgkins lymphoma. Non Hodgkins lymphoma can be divided into many subtypes based on the type of lymphoma cell seen on biopsy. They can also be divided into low grade and high grade Non Hodgkins lymphomas and their behaviour varies depending on the grade.
